Everything I learned about aging, I learned from REO Speedwagon...
Aug 07, 2024Last week, I had the adventure of seeing REO Speedwagon in concert. Maybe for the first time, as I don’t recall seeing them in their early days. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much. Yep. I said it. I kept thinking, hey, they are past their prime, and probably on their way to retirement, but I was still excited about the nostalgia of the experience. But to be honest, Kevin Cronin, blew me the f--- away! I think he is more in his prime and vibrant today than forty years ago when they were topping the charts routinely.
Kevin is now 72 years old. And his energy on stage was infectious. It was a masterclass in presence, passion, and pure joy. Watching him perform was like witnessing a human fully embodying the concept of "living in the moment." It was a powerful reminder that age is truly just a number.
What struck me most was the crowd. People of all ages were singing along, dancing, and losing themselves in the music. It was a beautiful display of unity and shared experience. Music has an incredible ability to connect us, to transport us, and to remind us of our shared humanity.
As a mindfulness and compassion coach, I often encourage my clients to cultivate presence, gratitude, and a sense of wonder. This concert was a potent reminder of the power of these practices. It's about finding joy in the simple things, embracing change, and approaching life with curiosity and openness.
Kevin Cronin and REO Speedwagon have shown us that it's possible to age with vitality, passion, and a whole lot of rock and roll. Let's channel that energy into our own lives and create our own symphonies of joy and fulfillment.
